Andrew Walsh Mechanical Repairs in Wagga Wagga takes pride in our vehicle safety and registration checks that help in promoting road safety across New South Wales (NSW). Often referred to as rego checks or the issuing of roadworthy certificates, these inspections form a critical part of vehicle registration renewal.
Under NSW laws, light vehicles more than five years old are required to have a yearly safety inspection report, often called a pink slip, as part of their registration renewal process. This report essentially provides a clean bill of health for a vehicle to be fit for use on the roads, thus contributing to the broader agenda of public safety. The vehicle’s exemption period starts from the month and year printed on its compliance plate. For imported vehicles, the exemption is calculated from the date of manufacture.
As an authorised Inspection Scheme (AIS) station, we can provide the vital service of safety inspections and reports. If a vehicle passes its safety check, the inspection details are electronically dispatched to the authorities. Reports are valid for six months. A notice sent by authorities to vehicle owners outlines when the inspection is required.
Should a vehicle fail its safety check, the vehicle requires repair before it can renew its registration. We can help by identifying the needed repairs. Vehicle owners have 14 days to carry out these repairs and return for reassessment. Should the repairs take longer, an additional inspection fee will apply.
For vehicles not yet registered or those whose registration expired over three months ago, Andrew Walsh Mechanical Repairs also provides Authorised Unregistered Vehicle Inspection Scheme (AUVIS) inspections, previously known as a blue slip.
With the wealth of experience from our Andrew Walsh Mechanical Repairs team, vehicle owners can navigate the registration renewal process with ease. Leveraging transparent cost structures outlined by the NSW government, we ensure that you and your vehicle remain safe on the roads. The firm is truly an ally in safety and roadworthiness.

How long is a NSW Rego Check valid for?
NSW reports are valid for 6 months, excluding public passenger vehicles. You must use the report to renew registration within 6 months for the safety check to be valid. If you are changing terms, you must request a new renewal notice to see if the inspection requirements have changed.
What is a Blue Slip?
In order to register a car in NSW, it is mandatory to first obtain a blue slip from an authorised inspection station. During the inspection process, the inspector carefully examines the vehicle identification number and chassis number to ensure their accuracy. Additionally, the VIN and engine numbers must be visually verified. After verifying these details, the inspector then evaluates the car's overall roadworthiness. To comply with regulations, the car must meet the strict requirements for tires, suspension, wipers, lights, brakes, seat belts, exhaust and any modifications. The inspector is meticulous in following the rule book as mistakes can be costly. If the car meets all necessary standards, the blue slip is issued, and the car can be registered in NSW. To complete the process, the vendor must also purchase a green slip and submit both documents to the RMS for final registration.
